Encouragement

Soooooo……there were a few bumps in the road on Monday, the first day with the packers.  Some dirty dishes got packed.  Also, although they weren’t supposed to be packed out until Wednesday, some things were taken from the bedrooms. One man took Hannah’s packed suitcase, containing all of the clothes that I had set aside for her to keep for the next 3 months and dumped the contents, to be used as stuffing/packing material, into a box containing 2 dining room chairs.  I almost started bawling. More notable than that boo-boo is the fact that Abby’s favorite stuffed animal, Crush the turtle, was taken off of her bed and packed, probably as more stuffing for a box! We didn’t discover that until bedtime. Sigh!!!! There were many tears all around about that. This is the second move where this has happened to her.

Chris and I didn’t sleep well and I am feeling pretty yucky today. So I needed some encouragement. God reminded me about some things. God is good. For a few weeks He has been providing meals for us on Sundays through a sweet lady at our church. Also, the children had a GREAT day with our pastor’s wife Peggy yesterday. They were gone all day and had lots of fun going on a nature walk, doing sidewalk chalk drawings, going to the library, picking out lunch at the commissary, having a picnic at the playground, playing tennis and having ice cream.

Count your blessings. Name them one by one. Count your blessings. See what God has done. Count your blessings, count your many blessings. Count your blessings, see what God has done.

The following devotional was in my “junk mail” box this morning. It is not “junk.” I hope that you are blessed by it!

Encouragement for Your Future

YOUR FUTURE IS FULL OF… HOPE because God is working on your behalf. In all things God works for the good of those who love Him. ROMANS 8:28

JOY because God has a plan for you. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.” JEREMIAH 29:11

PEACE because God will be with you wherever you go. I am with you always. MATTHEW 28:20

LOVE because God deeply loves you. How wide and long and deep and high is the love of Christ. EPHESIANS 3:18

STRENGTH because God gives you everything you need. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. PHILIPPIANS 4:13

CONFIDENCE because God made you who you are. God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. GENESIS 1:31

COURAGE because God can do more than you can imagine! With God all things are possible. MATTHEW 19:26

    Hi Melissa ,
As a result of reading the guestbook pages on the Dunoon TV website a few weeks ago, I ordered some biographies by Robert Douglas, an author from Glasgow. His upbringing in the slums of Maryhill in Glasgow in the 1940’s and 50’s brought back memories of Glasgow in the 50’s and 60’s, compelling me to check out photos of Glasgow on the Mitchell Library website. I remember travelling either by bus or train past slum tenements [the Gorbals in particular] as a girl and then a college student, and feeling superior to anyone who lived in those conditions. How sad/insensitive was that! Those children and their parents had so little control over their circumstances. Aunt C., Aunt S., and I, though fatherless, and poor in financial terms, were brought up in a safe and loving environment, had regular healthy meals, ‘warmth’/British style, and indoor plumbing. We didn’t know how lucky we were. The author, as a sixteen year-old, could pack all his belongings into one paper carrier bag.
You’ll be taking your nurturing environment with you wherever you travel…and that’s irreplacable.
