Cinque Terre, Wednesday May 5th

We enjoyed Cinque Terre, the five lands, very much.  We didn’t have much sun, but when it did shine the views were beautiful. Cinque Terre reminds me, a bit, of the life that God has given us in the military. The different towns are set on the hard rocky coast, separated by rough trails or by the choppy sea. It seems that nothing should grow or thrive there, but each town, each stop along the way, is beautiful in its own way. There are struggles, but there is also great potential for growth. The people of Cinque Terre make their homes and their living with God’s creative provision. From the land there are grapes, olives and other produce. From the sea there is a wealth of fish and shellfish. The homes are painted with bright warm colors. Why?! This life they lead must surely be hard, separated and lonely. Shouldn’t the buildings’ colors be gray? Cool? Lifeless? But no. They glow warmly with life! Lord, let it be so with me.

I am reminded of this song by Third Day:

It feels like forever since I can remember
It seems like it’s always been this way
Keep the good news to ourselves, a secret we’ll never tell
I don’t know why we’ve been so ashamed

But changes are in the air, sparks are starting everywhere
And oh, what a sweet, sweet sound
With millions of voices, singing new choruses
Leading the way to higher ground

Keep on, keep on shinin’
Wherever you may be
Keep on, keep on shinin’
For all the world to see

Having faith in the long run is easier said than done
It’s hard to live out in the light of day
You’re bruised and you’re battered, your dreams have been shattered
Your best laid plans scattered over the place

Despite all your tendencies, God sees it differently
Your struggle’s a time to grow
And you, you’re a miracle, anything but typical
It’s time for the whole wide world to know

Our day in Cinque Terre was  much different from that of professional tour guide, Rick Steves, but I thought that you might enjoy these videos of him in Cinque Terre as well as the link to Cinque Terre’s official website. Enjoy!
