House?

July 3, 2010

It has been an emotionally draining couple of days for me. We thought that we were going to take the duplex on base and just make it work, but now are reconsidering. The duplex is really small. So, we have started looking at some places off base. We looked at 3 houses yesterday. Two were within city limits with a 20-25 minute commute. One of the houses would work for us, although the carpet is old and smells of dog. So, we’d want that replaced. I am not sure if we’ll apply for that one or not.

The third place is in Edgewood, in the east mountains, about a 25-30 minute commute. We drove out to see the area and check the drive time last evening. The owners were just getting back from a trip and let us come in to look around. They seem like very nice people. Their son is a missionary overseas and they are moving to be near some friends that are planting a church. We are very interested in this place and Chris is at work filling out a rental application right now.

-1.8 miles from Calvary Chapel Edgewood: http://www.calvaryeastmountain.org/index.html

-30 minutes from base?

-rent $1,600, plus utilities about $500/month

Here’s some information and photos:

3 year old 2700 sq ft 5 bedroom/3 bath home, 4 car garage with workshop area with lots of storage on 2 1/3 wooded acres. Main house has 3 bedrooms & 2 full baths, living room, kitchen, dining room, family room, fireplace with wood stove. Tile throughout house, bedrooms carpeted. Beautiful 700 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen, dining area and full bath above garage. Apartment has inside access from garage. All appliances in both main house and apt except washer/dryer. There is a good-sized area fenced for small to medium sized dog. Elementary and middle school bus stop across the street, high school bus stop short distance away.

So, we are proceeding with  the application process. We want to be where God wants us and hope that this may be place that we call home. We have been getting ready for moving or in moving mode in some sort of way since March. We are ready to settle down somewhere.

This is a hard choice because we thought that we would live on base. Please pray that our hearts would be prepared for whatever God has for us and that we would listen and obey.

    Hi Melissa,
Wouldn’t it be lovely if base housing had this to offer? I hope you are taking note of the layout, the pros and cons of all the different houses in which you have lived, in case you ever have a house built. Where does the water supply come from? Is the house well insulated?
    Love,
    Mum
