House!

July 6, 2010

We got the house in Edgewood!  The lady (Mrs. Niclas), called last night and said they’d love to have us rent their place and that they would be willing to lower the rent to $1500 a month to help offset the cost of the utilities. They are in the midst of buying another house and they are unsure when they will be able to move into that one. Chris told them not to worry about it. We are hoping to talk to them today about a possible August 16th move-in date instead of August 1rst. Hopefully, this will take some pressure off of them and it may enable us to go to Maine before the movers deliver our things. We plan on meeting with the Niclas family soon to sign the lease. It will be a one year lease. We’ll see what happens at the end of the year. They had been trying to sell the place, but the market is not good. They may want to try again in a year, so we’ll have to trust God for where we’ll be living in a year.

In another area, there still no news on when we can pick up our van. According to the contract, the latest date that the company can have it available for pick up is 12 July. We found out today that it is in the port in Georgia! We thought it was going to Texas. Oh well, Texas is where we need to pick it up. We hope to find out today tSee full size imagehat it will be available for pick up sooner. If so, Chris will fly to Texas to pick it up and drive it back this week, hopefully this week. The rental is expensive. Sarah or Ian may go with Chris to pick up the van, according to price and timing.

We are praying about a trip to Maine. There are lots of details to work out, so we still have not been able to File:Loganairportwithplane.JPGmake reservations for a flight. There are the dates and price to consider.  We are thinking of going for about two weeks, in the time frame of Tuesday, July 27 to Friday, August 13. We are tired. We’d like to fly into Bangor for the ease of it, but the prices are now about twice that of flying into Boston. Also, the price into Boston continues to rise daily. We were looking at $257 a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s at $409.

While making these plans we have to consider moving in, unpacking, and a class that Chris needs to take for work – the class is scheduled for the 16th-20th August. He is going to try today to get that changed because that is the week we are hoping to have our household goods delivered. We’d like to get our household goods delivered on August 16th. Abby was counting on being in Maine for her birthday, the 20th, but that probably won’t work out. So we’ll have two parties! 🙂 Also, I think that my mother starts school during the week of the 23rd of August.  At some point I need to order school books (which usually takes me 2-3 days) and get ready for school to start. I like to have 2 weeks to do that, but 1 week might have to be enough this year. Perhaps we’ll do a staggered start-Math, Science and Spanish the first week or two and then add in the rest. The summer will be over before we’re settled. Our summer vacation so far it has not been a restful one. Wow! Have I mentioned not liking moving?

We also need to consider buying a second vehicle. Chris is looking at buying a new truck. We are praying for wisdom. Chevy has been running a deal on their trucks….$5000 off plus another $750 through our bank – through July 5th. That would get the price close to what a newer used one would cost, but would include a warranty the a used one would probably no longer have. We are thinking that they may extend the deal, but won’t know the details until he speaks with a salesman who comes back from vacation on Wednesday. We are waiting to see when or if we should buy one. We may wait until later in the Fall. So that is another “pray more and wait.”

Arrangements will need to be made for where we will be staying between now and when we move into the house. We have the TLF until the last week in July. We have to apply for an exemption to the 30 day limit, so it might be a little complicated with the possible trip to Maine and then the time in between coming back to ABQ and then moving in the house in Edgewood. Once again, more details for God, Our Provider, to work out.

So, don’t get me wrong. We are excited about the house and glad to know where we will be living for the next year. It may sound like we are not happy about it.  It’s just that there are still many things that need planning and many more things to do before we are settled. We are ready to be settled. Also, this is hard because we really wanted to be on base. I have been going for a walk with Chris in the morning since we have been here. He also comes home for lunch and is usually home at 5:30. It is very strange seeing him so much, and it makes me realize how much I have missed him and for how long.  It is uncomfortable thinking about being off base because I know that we will be sacrificing 2 hours of seeing him a day, about 1/2 hour commute both ways and an hour lunch. We have been praying about this a lot though. We asked God to have the owners of the house reject our application if we weren’t supposed to take the house. We are very thankful for the answers that God is providing.

The following calendar is VERY tentative, but here are our thoughts about what the next couple of months might be like:

After that, we can talk to our landlords about the move-in date, talk to the transportation people about the delivery of our household goods and the things in storage in South Dakota, and hopefully make our plans to go to Maine.

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

Psalm 118

1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!

2 Let Israel say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”

Hi Melissa! Welcome back to the USA. I have been following your blog. I am planning on being in ABQ July 22-25 and I noticed your calendar is open. I would love to see you all. Just Stephanie & I are coming. Send me your phone # so I can get in touch. We used to live out near Edgewood. (off the sedillo exit) It is beautiful but a little bit of a drive. Sounds like a perfect place for your family. We never went to CC East mountain, tho. Can’t wait to see you all.
