Open Letter to Senator Snowe and Collins

April 8, 2011

Please pray for and contact your Senators. Do you realize that the budget negotiations are stalled mostly because of the (de) funding of abortion? I see this as God drawing a line in the sand again. He is merciful and is allowing us another choice as a country.  Life is a gift from God. Babies are more precious than gold. Our country is now seeing the results, fiscally, of  our moral and spiritual bankruptcy. Little baby hands and feet, fingers and toes, hearts and minds should be treated with great reverence. They should not be dismantled and thrown into dumpsters or stuffed into freezers.

                                                                                                                                                                                           I’m sorry, if this is too graphic, but

it’s the truth.

Here is what I am sending to my Senators:

Senator,

I contact you as a women, a mother, the wife of an active duty Air Force officer and most importantly as an American who does not want my money associated with abortions in any way. Please vote for the seven-day extension of the budget that was passed out of the House yesterday afternoon.  I know that Sen. Harry Reid says there’s still no deal and that the President says that he’ll veto it even if the Senate votes for it. The House proposal is not a “distraction”. This is a “reasonable compromise”. As you know, on top of cutting $12 billion in spending, and funding the military through the end of September it also blocks taxpayer-funded abortions in D.C. All of which are good and right things to do. Remove the military as a political bargaining chip in this process. Fund the Pentagon through the end of the fiscal year.

This defunding of abortions is not “an invasion of reproductive rights”. No one has a reproductive right to use my money for an abortion. This does violate the conscience of many Americans, including my own.  The Democrats have decided to make this the critical issue. Either Republicans agree to use taxpayer money for abortions or they’re going to shut down the government…If those are the choices, then–in the words of Rep. Mike Pence–shut it down!

Any attempt to strip the D.C. language from the continuing resolution is a vote FOR taxpayer funding of abortion. Keep the language and vote for the CR.

v/r,

Melissa Lane

I do not know if they will listen, but I have not “stood by  silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves” as Habakkuk 1:13 says. I pray that the Lord continues to have mercy on our country!

Psalm 127

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

 1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
   the builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
   the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
   and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
   for he grants sleep to those he loves.

 3 Children are a heritage from the LORD,
   offspring a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
   are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
   whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
   when they contend with their opponents in court.

Habakkuk 1

 1 The prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received.

Habakkuk’s Complaint

 2 How long, LORD, must I call for help,
   but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
   but you do not save?
3 Why do you make me look at injustice?
   Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?
Destruction and violence are before me;
   there is strife, and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law is paralyzed,
   and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
   so that justice is perverted.

The LORD’s Answer

 5 “Look at the nations and watch—
   and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
   that you would not believe,
   even if you were told.
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,[a]
   that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth
   to seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are a feared and dreaded people;
   they are a law to themselves
   and promote their own honor.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards,
   fiercer than wolves at dusk.
Their cavalry gallops headlong;
   their horsemen come from afar.
They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;
 9 they all come intent on violence.
Their hordes[b] advance like a desert wind
   and gather prisoners like sand.
10 They mock kings
   and scoff at rulers.
They laugh at all fortified cities;
   by building earthen ramps they capture them.
11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on—
   guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”

Habakkuk’s Second Complaint

 12 LORD, are you not from everlasting?
   My God, my Holy One, you[c] will never die.
You, LORD, have appointed them to execute judgment;
   you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish.
13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil;
   you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
Why then do you tolerate the treacherous?
   Why are you silent while the wicked
   swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
14 You have made people like the fish in the sea,
   like the sea creatures that have no ruler.
15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks,
   he catches them in his net,
he gathers them up in his dragnet;
   and so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net
   and burns incense to his dragnet,
for by his net he lives in luxury
   and enjoys the choicest food.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net,
   destroying nations without mercy?
