Senators, Defund Planned Parenthood!

April 12, 2011

Senator Snowe and Collins,
I contact you as a women, a mother, the wife of an active duty Air Force officer and most importantly as an American who does not want my money associated with abortions in any way.
As the upcoming vote to defund Planned Parenthood approaches, please consider that for over three decades Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion company, has received billions in taxpayer funds.

Despite being a billion-dollar-a-year corporation, Planned Parenthood annually receives $363,200,000 — 33 percent of its income — from “government grants and contracts,” that is, from taxpayer dollars.  How can this be?

With this money, Planned Parenthood claims it performs “benevolent services.” The numbers seem to testify to something different about these services however.

– 97.6 percent of the “services” they provided for pregnant women in 2009 ended in the abortion of the womens’ children

– only 2.4 percent of the services involved prenatal care or adoption referral.

– income from abortions constitutes 37 percent of their total profit

– they performed fewer than 20,000 other services in their last reporting year — including zero mammograms

– they did perform 332,278 abortions

-97.6 percent of $363,200,000 a year = for $348,672,000 for abortions

The $363,200,000 a year for “reproductive health care” doesn’t seem like such a bargain for taxpayers, does it?

Taxpayers should not be subsidizing organizations that perform abortions – especially when they have demonstrated they do not need it. The nonprofit organization had income over expenses of $85,000,000 in 2008, and $63,400,000 in 2009. It reports some offsetting investment losses —but welcome to the club. Its annual budget today exceeds $1 billion. The money would be better served going to Title X recipients who do not have abortion as their central product.  Please vote to keeping taxpayer dollars from subsidizing the nation’s largest abortion company, Planned Parenthood.

I know that you have heard all of this before, but here it is again from a woman who has voted for you in the past and won’t vote for you in the future if you don’t take a more socially conservative stand.

Stand up for me Senator, be a voice for Americans who have a moral objection to funding abortion. Remove my tax dollars from being involved with Planned Parenthood in any sort of way.
